I made an impromptu stop at Interskate 91 South in Wilbraham, MA to find one of the most unique arenas I have come across in quite a while. To set the stage, I had driven a fair distance from NY to get here and the majority of the trip seemed to be through road construction, so I found it to be incredibly appropriate/ironic/geographically-aware to find this theme continuing right on into the arena. First time ever that I have been delighted to find road construction! :)
When I arrived I bought my ticket to pass through the “toll booth”.
The manager connected me with staff member Julius to play a 1v1 game, as I had arrived within a half an hour of closing time. I am incredibly appreciative that this was a good game for checking out a very unusual space.
I got a sense of some of what was waiting for me, as they operate with CyberBlast here.
The arena plays lengthwise. It is essentially a long, rectangular room separated out by…road barriers! I absolutely LOVE this!
The black lights were on during the game, but I actually think house lights give this a more realistic “parking garage” style feel (like, am I at the Albany airport or what?”
Bases are located at each end of the arena.
And while it isn’t an overly complicated design, it is DIFFERENT and that means I had a much more interesting experience. I don’t know if I am overthinking this (or if anyone else connected these dots), but this seems especially cool in an arena using Blast gear.
Thank you, Julius for making this a really worthwhile game experience!
It was also an excellent break from my drive, as I still had a good ways left to travel to get to my evening destinations in Rhode Island where I anticipated I would soon be hitting another milestone arena number. Interstate 91 South was the perfect rest stop.
Well, time to get back on the road and back into the road construction I would not enjoy nearly as much as what I found in the arena!
