Tag 4 A Cause began as a virtual 5K laser tag challenge and I still pledge to do 5K inside the arena every time. So on The Longest Day of June 20th (the summer solstice, which is the longest day of the year) I completed my 5K challenge inside the laser tag arena at The Fun Warehouse as we continue to raise awareness for the Alzheimer’s Association, alongside Stealth Elf and Alex Boxes who kept me moving for the challenge!
I normally ballpark that it takes about ten games (obviously depending on a lot of factors including system, format and game length) to complete 5K or 3.11 miles while laser tagging. I did not rely on the equipment step counter, but instead I track my progress on my own Fitbit for consistency between systems. I came out of the first game at .48 miles and jokingly said “well, I only have to do THAT six more times”…and amazingly by working in three games of Escalation (and even a couple games of Photon Emulation because “The Light Shines”) this actually happened and I met my 5K goal in only seven games total. This is how I pledge to earn my medal.
This is one of the very few times I have left the arena while it was still light out, which is sort of the point of anchoring the challenge around The Longest Day. This is when lots of people focus their personal fundraising efforts to support the Alzheimer’s Association. In my case, this day happens to be sandwiched between two fundraiser events.
My thanks once again to everyone who came out last weekend to Tag 4 A Cause at The Fun Warehouse where we exceeded our initial goal.
Can we do it again on the other side of the country next weekend?
