Armageddon Day 2: Tivigeddon (and Tron)

Day two of Armageddon began with Tron and ended with Tivigeddon. Born last year out of salvaging a day (after a system had to be dropped), Tivigeddon started with me saying “I’m just going to hop in my car and play tag at all the centers between here and there hotel. Who’s with me?” This time around these are the good folks who came with me. :)

This year I coordinated a plan in advance to take place following the Tron portion of the tournament.

We gave this system our best run, but ultimately it was our Achilles heel. We took our limited victory in this system where we could.

After the tournament games were done we headed off in search of more tag, starting with a visit to Jay Lanes in Douglassville, PA.

We played some Helios CE and just ran around that arena having a great time! Two games back to back and some fun running around their medieval themed, single level arena.

I had played at this location in the past and really enjoyed the banter with the manager at the front counter.

From there we proceeded to a newer arena in the area, Tiled 10 in Willow Grove, PA and vested up for some CyberBlast.

The arena is has a bright, jungle graphic design and theme on a single level across essentially two rooms.

It was fun to play, although I missed one element all together. Apparently they had the projection target feature with a gorilla, but I never saw it! I guess I should have kept a better eye out from this perch. :)

And by the end of this game we had all had our fill of tag (for the moment) so we proceeded with the formalities and awarded Scitchy with the first place Tivigeddon medal!

Time for dinner and sleep!

Armageddon 2024 - Day 1: We are Systematic Chaos

I woke up on Friday morning to learn the results of the captain’s draft for the 2024 U.S. Armageddon tournament. I had been added to a group chat and discovered which newly formed team had picked me for their roster…we are Systematic Chaos. :)

First day spoiler alert…we were undefeated on day one! We had a really good running start with this team captained by Scuba and including RedNecTec, Jackal, Skitchy (from Sweden), Masterboy (from Austria), Grumpy, Woz and me.

The first day began with Q-Zar.

I have developed an appreciation for this system over the years, largely because getting to play it is such a rare novelty these days. We hoped to do well and the first few games gave us a good starting point for developing some strategy with guidance from RNT. By our final game we were ready to take on the team with the Q-Zar Goliath…The Brit. He is so well renowned for his skill on this system that this was expected to be a very challenging game. I think we were all pleasantly dumbfounded to have won that last game against his team. We had a clean sweep for our games on Q-Zar!

I mixed up some of my “go-go juice” (just highly caffeinated iced tea to keep my energy up at tournaments) and enjoyed time socializing with old friends…

…and some of our new friends from abroad. There is some VERY good international representation at this tournament!

Next up was Laserforce. Due to the time constraints we were not able to finish playing this system on day one, however we got to play three out of five of our scheduled games and we won them all, so this was a very optimistic beginning!

This was a great way to kick off the first day.

Three more days (and five and a half more systems) left to go!

Photon Chic

With just a bit of accessorizing this Photon Commander jumpsuit becomes one cute outfit! Yes, I spent some quality time bidding on Ebay last week. :) I have been told that this suit was originally from Photon Kenilworth.

From Tactical Tag to Tiaras

Typically when I add a laser tag stop before or after a pageant event I end up looking like a completely out-of-place newbie player who didn’t know how to dress properly for laser tag…today was no exception. :)

My friend (and Miss Finger Lakes sister) Vicky was competing for the title of Mrs. New York and I wanted to support her, so I made the drive to Rochester, figuring I could start the day by checking out an outdoor arena I had not been able to visit previously and then I would continue on to the pageant venue afterwards. That’s why I showed up on a tactical field looking like this!

I arrived at the Clubhouse in Greece, NY, looking forward to starting my day with a couple of missions. I smiled when I noticed a familiar face on their vinyl banner out front.

Do I spy Zach? I sure do!

Timing was perfect that I could play the first session of the day with enough time to get back before the start of the pageant, so when they opened the outdoor activities at noon I was ready.

This was a gorgeous day for checking out their outdoor field. I was joined by local players Emma, Sean and Kevin. It was also a wonderful surprise that the game master was Kimmie who I remembered from ages ago when she worked at my first laser tag home, Fun Junction. :)

The field was well sized for this group with a militaristic theme and a well-balanced design.

I positioned myself for strategic shots…

…however, something seemed a bit off. The first game was…a draw? No shots landed by either team? It’s been a few months since I played using Battle Company gear, but still…could my aim really be THAT off? We played three five-minute games and I am embarrassed to say it took me until game three to realize what was happening.

Notice anything?

That’s right, I had been placed on the blue team and completely failed to notice that my tagger was lit up red! Facepalm! That’s why I wasn’t tagging my opponents and they weren’t tagging me either…we were inadvertently playing on the same team!

Well, it happens. I blame myself for not realizing this sooner, but for what it’s worth, we still had an awesome game…just call it a Whose Line Is It Anyway round where everything is made up and the points don’t matter, lol! But had we actually been playing properly these guys were putting up a good challenge and I still worked up a sweat.

Tag at the Clubhouse was a great way to kick off my day. So glad I had this group joining me for the session! It was still a good time for sure. We could have replayed the game, however I had to get back on the road.

Next stop…tiara time!

Vicky did great and I am delighted to say she is now the new Mrs. New York American.

The outgoing Miss New York for America Strong also happens to be one of my former pageant girls, so I had two ladies (ironically both named Victoria) to be cheering for today.

And as it happens the pageant venue was practically just down the road from Lasertron, so I headed over, but timing didn’t work out for me to get into a game, so instead I enjoyed the second best reason for visiting Lasertron…peanut butter gelato!

And THAT is how you make the most out of a day trip to Rochester. :)

Oh, and one more important thing…
