Vintage Lazer Tag Invitations

It’s Museum Collection Monday and a good time to share some cool vintage Lazer Tag (W.O.W.) merchandising with these birthday invitations produced by C.A. Reed.

Back in the 80s many kids had fully themed parties with matching invites, plates, cups and table covers, very similar to this. See more cool nostalgia from the Lazer Tag and Photon home market collections in the video at https://lasertagmuseum.com/exhibits/noteworthy/

My “Big Kid” Laser Tag Birthday Celebration

When you picture a laser tag birthday celebration it is likely you might think of little kids running around the arena, all hyped up on birthday cake. Well, I’m just a big kid who loves to enjoy birthday laser tag too! Just swap out the cake for a sushi dinner out and you have my perfect celebration.

I enjoyed celebrating with two laser tag visits (along with sushi and an escape room session with Paul) and the first stop was to Apex Entertainment in Albany.

Shout out to Mike and his team for an awesome time in their recently re-themed arena. We vested up and enjoyed a couple of games in the newly “tagged” space.

Apex is where I tag most often when in Albany, so I had seen the new arena design and shared it in full detail a couple of months ago. However, after doing the escape room, we decided to check out some additional tag with a visit to Spare Time in Clifton Park where I was pleasantly surprised to see that they too had done a complete redesign of their arena since the last time I visited.

Now, I have been aware of several Spare Time locations revamping their arenas with similar theming in the last couple of years, seemingly aligning with equipment upgrades to Helios 2. However, when the Clifton Park location got their new H2 gear they kept their previous arena, so I didn’t walk  by in expecting anything different. That’s why it was a delight to learn that they got a complete arena redesign about six months ago and this would be my first opportunity to see it!

First, I’ll say this game was a lot of fun and I really enjoyed getting to play full out in this game. Is it considered “birthday bashing” if it’s your own birthday and everyone you are tagging is over 21? …asking for a friend. :)

But here’s where I took particular interest. This aesthetic was familiar and similar in many ways to what I had seen in other Spare Time locations including Colchester, VT, Huntersville and Pinesville, NC. However, as I look back on photos from my visits to those locations, I cannot help but notice this one used the same style of theming and yet somehow looked ever so slightly…better. What do I mean by that? Check out the depth of the design. There appears to be more of a 3D look to the “damage” on the walls.

The base housings are full structures with awesome lighting accents.

Even the stacked boxes looked a bit less “paper perfect” and more realistic when I compared pics between different arenas.

Could I be imagining these differences? They are only subtly different. And yet, upon leaving Clifton Park, I really felt like I had seen something new…and not just new to them, but new to me too. I’m love that this can continue to happen and that I have had experiences that allow me to notice and appreciation the evolution of cool arena art designs. Nicely done!

So enjoying this newly re-styled arena that felt new all over again was how I rounded out my “big kid” laser tag birthday celebration. What a great way to spend a day!
