Anyone who knows me knows I don’t go to any tournament without playing more laser tag, either before, during or after the competition (and sometimes all three!), and when my side ventures happen during Armageddon it has come to be known as Tivigeddon. So this is the story of “before”.
Armageddon may not have Tron this year, but Tivigeddon does! Scuba, Ski Patrol and I all met up at C.J. Barrymore’s in Clinton Township, MI the night before Armageddon so we could play a little bit of tag BEFORE the tag weekend.
We were directed to an upstairs arena and found a cool entrance decked out with some of the Tron archways, which brings a sense of the arena to the forefront to draw players in. Always smart to make your arena visible!
I was intrigued by this tunnel viewing section, which turned out to be an excellent idea and a great spot for spectators.
We noticed the packs were displayed in a visible vesting area.
A group of seven players were ahead of us in line so we all went in together. The game marshal told us we’d play teams, five on five. Immediately the guys in that group shouted “we’re a team” leaving the two women of their group to join us. I winked at one and said “don’t worry, we’ve got this.”
We went into a nice, single level arena and were led over to the red recharge station.
The eight minute game started and we took those guys by surprise! Scuba and I took turns running over and commanding the base. The other team was dumbfounded and, as I promised those women joining us, we did the thing.
This was actually really fun (don’t tell Sakura I said that, lol)! I had a great time playing Lasertron with my friends and we finished up with a visit to their concession area where I had an excellent soft pretzel. It was nice to get some time to chill and relax prior to the tournament. I enjoyed our visit to C.J. Barrymore’s.
We headed over to the hotel where plenty of Armageddon players were already gathered enjoying beverages, but none so cool as this one that Dave selected.
So that’s the story of our tag before the tag. Good luck to everyone at this year’s Armageddon!
