The Writing is on the Wall

I visited three laser tag arenas in a row, each located inside one of three different trampoline park businesses on Long Island and each one using equipment made by the same laser tag manufacturer. The similarities in such close proximity to each other struck me as a bit of an anomaly, but if this is your jam, you have a few choices. The second such site that I stopped by was Bounce! Family Entertainment Center In Syossett, NY. Since there was so much similarity going on, I really looked to identify what was different or memorable at each one. In this case, it was quite literally this writing on the wall.

We had some discussion at expo about how to make your laser tag attraction easy to find and not hide it behind four walls. They definitely accomplished that with this huge signage!

I followed the words on this wall mural as a sort of beacon to the laser tag area where I found a group of parents watching their kids mid-game inside the open air arena with a half wall on the outside for observation and another lowered wall on the inside of the briefing/vesting area where the Delta Strike Genesis were neatly hanging. Both angles gave an unobstructed view into the arena.

When the party of kids was done with their game they excitedly exited and then there was a quiet moment when I was able to request a one on one game with a staff member in order that I could experience this arena myself. This had to be cleared by a manager first (not unusual), but what I found unique was that it appeared that the manager stuck around to monitor the game as if the other staff member could monitor while playing, even with only one player in the arena with her. Nothing at all wrong with that, just an observation that made me say “huh.”

We entered the arena that, quite frankly, looked very familiar in a lot of different ways. My immediate reaction was this looks like another FEC chain, but a lot of CW themes reappear often and as I look closer it’s probably just a theme I’ve seen numerous times. The one distinctive element  was the Pandora-style head on the wall, however this is also something I’ve seen recently. However, I last saw this head used somewhere near Seattle, so it’s unlikely that anyone but me is noticing any duplication of theme. :)

The arena has a mezzanine-style platform area making a partial second level against the back wall with a windowed view.

The staffer and I spent about twelve minutes (long game!) circling between this area and the lower level.

This was a light game, just enough to give me a sample of the experience to be had here. But I had a few more arenas to visit this day, so I guess it’s “time to Bounce!”
