Scuba, Dave and I set out for Columbus, Ohio with our sights set on tactical tagging at the newest Combat Ops location, which has been open for less than a year. I have previously played at their other locations in Fort Wayne and Indianapolis, IN, but this one had something extra…Luke Beckwith (aka Skywalker) from the competitive tag scene is the manager here!
It was so nice to see our friend again as we took a tour of the new place.
Luke walked us over to the arena where we found an armory of Battle Company taggers ready to go. Headsets on, we were locked and loaded!
We played a total of three games beginning with a free for all “Gun Game”, which was our first opportunity to see the arena. The prop I have come to look for in many tactical arenas is the car. You simply must have a car in the arena! :)
I actually really love to find obscure props in an arena and tactical spaces tend to do that really well. The more random the better! Dollhouse? Absolutely!
And the deeper we explored, the more cool things we discovered to designate the different “rooms” within the space. For example, the kitchen area, complete with stove and fridge…
Office space…
Bedroom with bunk beds…
And a random dresser with mirror, which as I looked into the mirror gave me very strong KV vibes!
I like the way they have positioned a game control/marshal’s desk directly in the center of the arena. It gives the game master a good view and you know where to find them if there is any mid-game issue. It seems both logical and a unique approach.
What struck all of us immediately was how smoothly the equipment played.
This game was fun and segued neatly into the next free for all game called Avengers, which was a new one for me.
In short, for this game you become a superhero with options for these cleverly named superhero-themed weapons. Pretty sure this whole concept deserves a “Thank you, Zach!”
I can’t say I felt like I became Wonder Woman or anything (please don’t write me letters if I screwed up which universe she belongs to), but it was another fun experience for sure!
Then a public group entered and we joined them for one team game. It was a mom with several kids with more energy than Dave and I had! I think we’ll just play this game from right here, sitting on the bench, lol!
Just kidding (mostly), but I did take a few shots while sitting just for the novelty of saying I did!
Seriously, it was a lot of fun. The third game also served as a way to spend our time while waiting for our food, as this place has a nice snack bar, arcade and other attractions. Luke got our order started for us while we finished the last game and then we met up to thank him for the hospitality.
We really had a wonderful experience at Combat Ops and I know Luke will continue to grow that site into an amazing location for fun in Columbus, OH. Glad we could visit and spend some time enjoying tag together again!
