80’s Laser Tag Night

”I’m your Venus, I’m your fire!” If you are imagining that song being belted out by my tone-deaf self while I dance past the green base, phaser in hand and no doubt to the amusement of the teenage game marshal, then you have a pretty good idea of how much fun was had during 80’s laser tag night at The Fun Warehouse in Syracuse, NY.

I pulled out every 80s trend I love, from the off-the-shoulder t-shirt to the fire engine red lipstick, the fingerless gloves and glow in the dark nail polish. I had an oversized hair bow and way too many bracelets (oh wait, I wear way too many bracelets every day!) and showed up in vintage Madonna-style.

However, the best of the 80s was not to be worn tonight, but rather to be displayed. I was so delighted to be able to showcase some 80s laser tag history with a timeline in photos and a classic Photon pod and helmet from the Laser Tag Museum Collection.

Check out this 80s laser tag history!

It was wonderful to see people taking an interest in the history display and asking questions about laser tag.

The most common questions were about the Photon helmet, which you can see has sensor lights all around it. The pod works using reverse IR technology for the signal to go between the gear and the phaser. I love that we were able to give people a first-hand look at the vintage Photon gear that originated the laser tag industry back in 1984, created by George Carter III in Dallas, TX.

Our first special game format of the night was Photon emulation, where we played a simulated version of the original game using modern Laserforce equipment. Photon historians will notice the homage to the series featured on the front of my pack too!

Now the game looks a little different!

The Fun Warehouse did some cool things to celebrate the 1980s including pricing the night at $19.80!

I pulled my cassette wallet out of the asymmetrical purse I carried all night. It’s a little ironic that I think my Coach fanny pack goes with everything BUT this 80s outfit?! Oh, and someone please explain to Alex what a cassette tape is, while we’re on the topic. ;)

The evening included 80s trivia and fun prize bags.

In between games we enjoyed pizza and socializing.

And during the games we were rockin’ to the hits of the 80s, mixed courtesy of DJ Beanz. As soon as the opening beats from Push It came over the speakers I was in my element! (Harry, get into the studio NOW!!!)

If you noticed my slouch socks, you might have also noticed one of my favorite memories from that time period…

These ponies were running around the arena all night long, loving the vibe of the music, the laser tag and the celebration of the era! 80s night at The Fun Warehouse was a blast!

I love the 80s even more now than the first time around! :)
