Acting Like a Big Kid

I can count on one hand how many times I have been on a trampoline at a trampoline park. This visit makes two. ;) But I decided to give it a go when Aztec and I paid a visit to Empire Adventure Park in Westbury, NY.

I didn’t not expect that this would time out as well as it did, but Aztec was able to meet up with me for some tag at what turned out to be his first time at a trampoline park. We took this opportunity to have some fun acting like big kids!

Usually I just purchase my tag and that’s all I am interested in. However, this site had a one-hour minimum for entry to all their attractions, so we rolled with it…and jumped with it too!

We both experienced some new things during this visit. I typically see paper wristbands with different colors or timestamps being the way timed experiences are monitored, but in this case we each got a much more elaborate electronic timing wristband affixed to our arms that would stay blue during our active time and turn red when the hour was done.

This is the first time I had experienced such a gadget. My initial reaction was I did not particularly like having this strange wristband attached to my body because it was not removable (which is also sort of the point), but I got over it quickly enough.

Aztec was surprised to learn they were going to require no shoes be worn for anything, including laser tag. This is only the second time I have had to play laser tag in socks, but we did as we were told.

Of course we beelined over to the attraction that had brought us to this business. Laser tag was set up on a far corner with a NYC subway theme.

I’m trying to count how many NYC themed arenas I have been in over the last month. I believe the number is five…maybe six? So I am always interested in seeing what new spin the designers have put on the idea.

From the outside I would say that the distinction in this space is they are using the open air arena concept by having this wide open window for parents and spectators to see into the arena and watch the game.

Beyond this little sneak peek, we would have to wait and see for ourselves in the next game. We suited up in Delta Strike Genesis packs and got ready to explore.

Inside the arena was what I consider a staple of this concept…the Statue of Liberty.

I tag with this lady a lot in different incarnations. :)

My favorite props were the subway-styled base housings.

And beyond that the archways with signs indicating city locations were the main ways the theme was executed.

Although the walls did include some city theming too including a “view of the skyline”.

And there was some cool airbrushing along the wall of this raised side bridge where there is some slight elevation.

It’s a smaller, predominantly single level space, but seems to fit their purposes as one of many attractions. We looked around to see what other interesting things this place had to offer.

Aztec only had a short window of time to join me, so when we had explored for a bit U still had time on my wristband and decided that since it was part of the package I would experience some trampolining!

This may not have been my typical tag experience, but I had a good time and was especially glad to share some shenanigans with another big kid!

We enjoyed Empire Adventure Park and the time we had…now please take this wristband off me because I am ready for The Cheesecake Factory! :)
