Arena Sports in Mill Creek, WA had been on my radar for a while. I recall getting a recommendation that I should try to play here on my next visit to the northwest, so I made a point to visit this site and found some really cool and unusual things going on inside.
First, the place is huge with lots of activities and I could tell they cater to groups, as their were youth camps throughout the building, but not to the exclusion of taking care of walk-in clientele, which I really appreciate. This is one of three Arena Sports locations. The host at the counter helped to guide me to the best time for me to get into an open game, scheduled around their youth groups, and I was handed a ticket for the 4:00 session.
I appreciate the clearly scheduled games, so I had no problem waiting a few minutes and checking out the activities and the atmosphere in the meantime. When I saw the exterior of the arena with this cool local theming, I suspected that I would find something interesting inside as well. I was not disappointed!
Talk about a Seattle vibe! The theming was absolutely on point, featuring local designs all throughout the double-level arena. The focal point at the heart of the field is this AMAZING statement structure that allows you to have the experience of laser tagging around the Space Needle! Too cool!
It’s tough to show the scale of this massive structure, but you can get an idea of it from top…
…to bottom.
And if you keep your eyes open you might find the space needle represented in other parts of the arena as well, like on the locally themed airbrushed walls.
And there are other local accents too, like the familiar names chosen for the street signs.
The game we played was using Zone Helios and they had video screens incorporating the graphics positioned underneath the outpost bases.
But if you look closely you might notice something unusual about the equipment itself.
What’s up with this phaser?
It has a darkened bottom half, which I have never seen before and it was intriguing to me. It’s not often that I stumble onto something like this. I was really curious about the what, why and how behind this phaser. I dropped a note to a friend at Zone who shared what he thought might be the reason, unofficially remembering it as being done by corporate (I’m speculating perhaps it was a special request) with an inner paint layer to lessen sensitivity to being tagged in the phaser and also just to be a little different. Well, it caught my attention, so it certainly achieved the latter!
Regardless of the reason, this was one more unique element that made my visit to Arena Sports in Mill Creek one I will definitely remember! :)
