The Ironman!

It has been a LONG time since I’ve played an Ironman game at any arena, so I was really pleased to hear it would be making a return to my home arena with an hour long continuous game scheduled prior to AYCP last weekend in Syracuse.

Umm…I forgot how long an hour can feel when you are accustomed to tagging in ten minute bursts. Sixty consecutive minutes of tag didn’t slow me down, but getting up the next morning isn’t as easy as it used to be!

Just kidding (sort of)! I’m obviously being dramatic here. However, I really loved playing the Ironman and hope they continue to do this. This is the group that came out to take on the challenge.

And challenge is the right word to use because what we played was a modified version of Challenge Royale. Beanz had programmed the game to include 14 formats, all with intervals of random time lengths, that added up to one solid hour of continuous laser tag. This is what the game looked like.

And we already saw what the game felt like! But seriously, what a workout! The scoreboard showed that I took 5357 in-game steps (which is realistically more steps than a lot of people take all day) and this game earned me a few redemption tickets as well.

I always say that laser tag is what I do instead of going to the gym, so I was a big fan of the step tracking feature that was added to the Gen 8 system a couple of years ago. I don’t pay attention to every possible achievement on the list, but I had been actively watching my progress for one in particular that I recently received. Since the step tracker was implemented I have I completed 100,000 in game steps and am now a Walking Warrior! :)

So if you are looking for a great way to get some extra steps or just had a Starbucks Nitro and need to do something with that caffeine rush, I highly recommend playing the Ironman…and then sleeping in the next morning!
